They can’t all be winners – Burda 6798

I don’t often see a lot of sewing failures posted online. Perhaps we’re more inclined to share successes, or maybe others don’t create quite as many wadders as I do. I certainly make my share of sucky garments, and this post is about one of them: Burda 6798 boyfriend jeans.

Late to the party take two: Ginger Jeans

Closet Case Ginger Jeans – we’ve made them, we’ve blogged them, we’ve read the reviews. Now that I’ve finally caught up to the rest of the sewing world, I can reflect on what I like and don’t like so much about jeansmaking.

Silver linings: Style Arc Georgie Jeans with tutorial

Style Arc Georgie Jean
Necklace and shoes from St Vinnies, tops from Salvos. Artwork in background by Beth!

You might remember some time ago (last year!) I made up the Style Arc Misty Jean in a stretch denim with modal from The Fabric Godmother. Unfortunately, the jeans were a wadder due to the fabric, which bled nonstop. The Fabric Godmother gave me a store credit for the value of the denim, and with a hefty dose of my own money, I purchased this cotton/elastane stretch denim in super black (goddamn exchange rate and international post). Top 5 of 2016

Every year, Gillian of Crafting a Rainbow hosts a Top 5 of 2016 round-up, whereby members of the online sewing community share their top 5 hits, misses, highlights, reflections and goals. I haven’t been blogging long enough to do a full post on each category, so today I’ll share one from each.

Hits

My definite hit for the year are my Style Arc Elle Pants. Made up in cherry red and berry purple bengaline, these pants are comfortable, stylish and easy to wear. They’ve also opened up the rabbit hole that is sewing stretch pants! My only complaint is that they are made from such a lightweight, cool fabric, I can only wear them in the warmer months. A Series of Unfortunate Events – Burda 7136 & Style Arc Misty Jeans

You know those projects, which for some reason or another, just don’t go quite right. The fabric acts up, the pattern isn’t quite what you’d hoped, or your machine is on the fritz. Both creations I’m sharing today are just a bit…unfortunate.

A woman poses in a garden, next to an arch and yellow rose bush. She wears a button-up shirt in grey with a cutlery print, and dark skinny jeans.
Leather loafers, Country Road, from the op shop.

My shirt is Burda 7136. I’m enamoured with Burda shirt patterns, and had been wanting to try this particular pattern for a long time. So when I picked up some Isaform cutlery print poplin on the $2/m table at Spotlight, making this pattern was first on my list. First: this fabric. THE FUCK, SPOTLIGHT.
